| Stress urinary incontinence is the most common type of incontinence in women Stress urinary incontinence is the most common type of incontinence in women. When women with stress incontinence cough or sneeze or otherwise put pressure on their bladders, a trickle of urine can escape. In 1999 Dr. Linda Breaker, a researcher from Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago said "Stress urinary incontinence is the most common type of incontinence in women and affects the daily lives of millions of individuals." Dr. Breaker, said that "Although many effective treatments are available through health care professionals, options for self-management of mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence have been limited largely to absorbent products, with several drawbacks, including bulk, odor and inadequate urine absorption." Other options, include collagen injections into the urethra that can help women with mild stress incontinence. For women with a more serious problem, surgery is recommended. |
