Sexual Dysfunction Not Uncommon Following Surgery for Stress Incontinence

A study conducted by Drs. Gary E. Lemack and Philippe E. Zimmern, from the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center, in Dallas revealed that about 20% of women who undergo vaginal surgery for stress incontinence report that sexual intercouse is less satisfactory after the procedure.

The study was the result of a mailed questionnaire that was answered by 56 women.

The doctors that conducted the study gave no reasons why approximately 20% of the women described intercourse as painful after the surgery and decided that further study was necessary.
